Background information
Awning
The Blackheath Rhododendron Festival Committee is considering applying for a grant to build an awning over the entrance off the park to the Phillips Hall, and to replace the chairs currently in the hall.
The awning will provide additional protection for people waiting to enter hall for a concert, but also provide a roof over the entrance when it is being used as a stage for an outdoor concert.
Chairs
With the upgrade of the Community Centre now underway, the Blackheath Rhododendron Festival Committee is interested in your views on a more comfortable seating arrangement, which is more in harmony with the style and vintage of the hall and has a more efficient way of handling and storage.

The Committee is interested in a chair designed by David Rowland, a World War II bomber pilot who became a designer of furniture of excellence. His multi award winning masterpiece, the Howe 40/4 chair, is a revolution in design thinking, embodying the principles of ergonomic comfort, space efficiency and aesthetic versatility. The name 40/4 indicates that 40 chairs stack to a height of 4 feet. These chairs have been used in such places as Canterbury, Salisbury and St Paul’s Cathedrals and come highly recommended for comfort and durability.
320 of the current chairs require 40 stacks of 8 chairs, with one trolley.
320 of the proposed chairs require 8 stacks of 40 chairs, with each stack stored on its own trolley.
